From 1 July 2017, big changes are happening to Auckland Council’s water and wastewater compliance and connections. Watercare, who deliver water and wastewater services to around 1.4 million people in Auckland, are introducing a raft of compliance changes that will essentially regulate and allow qualified contractors to certify their own work in the water system.
The council anticipates that these compliance changes will:
- Provide a consistent system so that all work carried out in the water system meets Watercare’s standards,
- Ensure that the water system remains in tip-top condition,
- Remove the need for some inspections by Watercare staff, which will save time and money; and
- Allow Watercare to claim liability from the responsible party if negligence is discovered.
All changes are expected to be fully implemented by 30 September 2017.
